Watertown
Bentzin Family Town Square Amphitheater
May 20, 2023, marked the opening of the Bentzin Family Town Square after 10 years of planning, development, and construction with a dedication ceremony and celebration. It was a grand day with speeches by all who generously supported the project plus food, games and music. The Bentzin Family, after whom the Town Square is named, contributed $1 million of the $6 million project. Other funding came from the WI DNR's Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Grant and the WI Economic Development Corporation's Community Development Investment Grant.
The gently sloped site of the Square includes a band stage along with a paved plaza area with table and chair seating at the top. A circular path with a water feature and low walls next to it leads to a green which ends at the Fox River. At the top of Town Square is the Watertown Library which has had a recent addition and also extensively updated. This whole area creates a wonderful civic center for the community.
Overseeing the Square was the Watertown Redevelopment Authority which captured the construction of the project over time via video. The designer was SmithGroup, Inc. Maas Brothers Construction Inc. of Watertown provided the construction management services.
