Menomonee Falls Amphitheater
Village Park Amphitheater
The Amphitheater was completed in late November 2020 as part of a Phase I for Village Park improvements. An enthusiastic crowd attended a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on December 2, 2020, even amid the Covid-19 pandemic. While thanking all who were a part of the project, the Village President Dave Glasgow remarked that this would become a "destination park".
The construction was was a part of a $2.1 million renovation with Phase II to be finished in 2023 with additional features to the Park - all a part of the "2018 Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan Update". The Amphitheater's cost was $350,000 with funding primarily through Public Park Impact Fees which are levied with each new unit of residential development. The Village worked with Ayres Associates of Madison on the park plans, engineering, and building design which included working on the Master Plan for Village Park in 2014-15. Village staff visited Hart Park Rotary Park Pavilion, Wauwatosa, for ideas regarding stage design. It was important to select natural local materials and durable all weather materials to hold up in Wisconsin winter weather. Burkhart Construction served as the general contractor while the Village's Director of Engineering and Development was project manager and the Public Works Dept., the Village Planner, and the Director of Community Development were also much involved.
According to Tyler Zwagerman, planner for the Village, the wide concrete in front of the amphitheater was designed to be used as a dance floor and to provide viewing access for residents/visitors with mobility challenges. The asphalt trail connects meet ADA standards by maintaining accessible grades. The curve of the concrete was designed to match the curve of the amphitheater structure, and the square section provides a location for sound crews to access electricity and run sound to the stage.
The first performance held at the new Amphitheater was on Memorial Fest, May 29, 2021. This event featured not only music in the new Amphitheater, but also a car show, food and beverage, kids' activities, and a lucky ducky derby. The large sloped green lawn in front of the Amphitheater can accommodate up to 3,000 for its concert programs. In its initial 2021 summer season, four concerts were held.
In addition to the Amphitheater, there is a new concession stand with restrooms and a plaza space for outdoor markets, such as the farmers market, and space for food trucks. The Phase II will bring a accessible play area and splash pad, combination pickleball and tennis courts, trails, shade areas, and a picnic shelter.
