Howard Commons Amphitheater
Howard Commons Activity Complex opened Labor Day weekend 2023. The Village Board had envisioned a space for all residents to use. After exploring many options since 2013, it discovered a complex in Valparaiso, Indiana, and used it as a model. Shive Hattery was hired as the architect.
The $12-13M Howard Commons Activity Complex includes the amphitheater with an event large lawn in front of it where audiences can place their own chairs or blankets to enjoy performances. It also is home to a children's splash pad, a biergarten, and an activity center building, and the large impressive open-air Arnold and Gloria Schmidt Pavilion which morphs into an ice skating rink in winter months.
The Complex was funded with Tax Incremental Financing (TIF), $4.97M over 15 years from Dan Schmidt of Bay Industries, a grant from the Canadian National Railway
