Anne C. Elston Performance Plaza

The Anne C. Elston Performance Center was completed as part of the Schreiner Memorial Library expansion and renovation in 2015, in Ryland Park. The designer for the entire project was FEH Design, Dubuque, Iowa, and cost $3.6M. The City of Lancaster committed $1M and large donations came from the Elston Family and Duane Wilcox along with additional fundrasing efforts that brought in donations from individuals, families, and business from the community.
When the Library renovation and expansion was envisioned in Ryland Park, the Lancaster Community Band requested an outdoor performance area be included. The Band had been performing on a regularly during the summer in the parking lot of the library and prior to that at the courthouse square. The Anne C. Elston Performance Plaza was dedicated in September 2015 with a speech by Duane Wilcox, long-time local music educator.
Currently, the Performance Center is used by the library, the Lancaster Community Band for its summer concert season concerts sponsored by the Lancaster Public Library Foundation and the Lancaster Area Chamber of Commerce; it is also used private events such as weddings.
