Village Park Bandstand
The bandstand has long been a focal point of Village Park. The Bandstand was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 21, 1988. The designer/architect of the bandstand is unknown, but the Village Park was planned by the landscape architect firm of Boerner and Boerner of Milwaukee. It may be likely that this firm also did the design work of the bandstand, which was built in 1938 using local labor and funded by the Works Progress Administration.
The bandstand used locally quarried coarse cut limestone with wood support pillars and interior ceiling. Steps lead to a wrought iron fenced concrete platform at the entrance to the performance area. During the 1980s the roof and pillars were replaced because of disrepair and the restrooms located under the stand were permanently closed with steel doors. Some upgrade of electrical work has also been done since it was built.
The Village has now adopted plans to improve Village Park, and as part of it will construct an amphitheater. The bandstand will remain as is.

The Village Board purchased the "Bernstein Woods Property" in 1935 in order to create the Village Park and also to take advantage of the Works Progress Administration funding. The Park is now held in great pride as a center for many activities that have developed over time and used by many residents of the Village.
Nearby the bandstand, there is a memorial for the veterans of many wars. Included also is a memorial to war dogs with a poem in-scripted honoring them. |
