The Bandshell at Stone Horse Green

A rendering of Stone Horse Green. The bandshell includes public bathrooms, a push-to-start fireplace, and a projector screen. Six stone horses, designed by local artists, line the west end and remind everyone of the site's history while creating an area for children to play. A fire kettle will be available for those cooler evenings. And finally, the interactive public art piece Barn Lights, also by the same artists, light the area at night. Stone Horse Green is currently in the fundraising stage. The design has been selected that included community participation which began in 2018. Several designs were offered and the public voted on them, with the current design winning. Because of the pandemic starting in 2020, activity to move forward was delayed by at least one year.
The historic site in downtown Middleton dates back to 1876 where the Burmeister and Williams Livery was located. The design plays on this theme and will have six heated stone horse sculptures ("Herd of Boulders") that provide seating and a play area along with interactive Barn Lights, both designed by local artists Gail Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades. The lights will be powered by a solar array housed on the roof of the bandshell. Public bathrooms are planned to be located within the bandshell structure along with a push-to-start fireplace and a movie screen on the stage. A fire kettle will be available to visitors and is opposite the bandshell - a fun place to gather and keep warm when cooler weather arrives. All are welcome: the site is purposely designed to meet ADA standards and is dementia friendly. Benches and bistro tables will be situated around the edges.
At this time (March 2021), about two-thirds of the $1.6M of funds have been raised, with the City as a major contributor along with generous funds from Pleasant Rowland and Terrence Wall. Donors are encouraged to select from the many opportunities whether it is an historic tile which will reside on a donor wall, a bench or bistro table, one of the stone horses, the fireplace, the barn lights, or the bandshell. In fact, all donations will be welcome.
It is anticipated that construction will start in early spring of 2022, and the opening/dedication will follow that summer at Stone Horse Green, a place "Where Good Neighbors Gather".
