The ETC Community Theater at Stone Horse Green

A rendering of Stone Horse Green. The bandshell includes public bathrooms, a push-to-start fireplace, and a projector screen. Six stone horses, designed by local artists, line the west end and remind everyone of the site's history while creating an area for children to play. A fire kettle will be available for those cooler evenings. And finally, the interactive public art piece Barn Lights, also by the same artists, light the area at night. In 2019 the design for the downtown space, Stone Horse Green (SHG) was selected with community participation. Several designs competed and the community voted for its favorite. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic starting in 2020, activity to move forward was delayed by at least one year.
The historic site in downtown Middleton dates back to 1876 where the Burmeister and Williams Livery was located. The design plays on this theme and will have six heated stone horse sculptures ("Herd of Boulders") that provide seating and a play area along with interactive Barn Lights, both designed by local artists Gail Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades. The lights will be powered by a solar array housed on the roof of the bandshell. Public bathrooms are planned to be located within the bandshell structure along with a push-to-start fireplace and a movie screen on the stage. A fire kettle will be available to visitors and is opposite the bandshell - a fun place to gather and keep warm when cooler weather arrives. All are welcome: the site is purposely designed to meet ADA standards and is dementia friendly. Benches and bistro tables will be situated around the edges.
The private fundraising raised $700,000 and was supported by lead donors Electronic Theater Control, HyCite Enterprises, Middleton Area Community Development Corporation, One Community Bank, FSC Partners LLC, Pleasant Rowland, Spring Windows Fashions, MG&E Foundation, Strand & Associates, and T. Wall Family. Additionally, the City contributed $1M in the public-private partnership. Donors had been encouraged to select from the many opportunities whether it is a tile with an historic photo and their name, a bench or bistro table, one of the stone horses that the donor can name, the fireplace, the barn lights, or the bandshell.
Construction started in spring of 2022, and the dedication is planned for early October, a place "Where Good Neighbors Gather".
