Rhinelander
RiverWalk Bandshell
In 1997, after years of playing on streets, in schools, and on make-shift stages, several members of the Rhinelander Area Community Band (RACB) determined that it was time to have a place to call their own. A small group spearheaded the bandshell project. Band member Ron Parkinson designed the structure giving particular attention to acoustics. The shell is built on land owned by Trig Solberg who graciously allowed the RACB to build the shell; it is located adjacent to one of his many area grocery stores.
The cost of the shell is estimated to be $20,000, used mainly for the materials. Most of the work was done by band members and other volunteers. Several fundraisers were held and many donations came from both band members and many community members. Around 2022, several maintenance projects were completed, including painting the shell. Some seating is available, however, many bring their own chairs to enjoy the concerts.
